Yearly Updates Coming to CGFNS/ICHP Program Handbooks and Applications

The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools and its division, the International Commission on Healthcare Professions (ICHP) will be making updates to its program handbooks and applications on a yearly basis beginning this year (2006). Although major requirements for each service have not changed, CGFNS/ICHP began undertaking this effort to ensure that the information remains relevant and is usable to its applicants.

2006-2007 Exam^SM Dates

CGFNS has announced the dates of its CGFNS Qualifying Exam^SM for 2006-2007. Application deadlines listed below cannot be extended. The dates and deadlines are as follows:

Four new supplements to the official CGFNS Study Guide now available for purchase

The Official Study Guide for the CGFNS Qualifying Exam^SM is currently in its 5th edition of printing. Certification Program applicants receive the Study Guide FREE with their initial application and payment of fees.

Applicants have told CGFNS they want additional study materials with more in-depth focus on each of the four major areas of nursing in the United States.

CGFNS is pleased to announce that four additional mini guides or supplements to the Official Study Guide are now available for purchase.

The publications: Adult Health Nursing, Maternal/Infant Nursing, Nursing of Children, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, can be purchased for the price of $20 each or $60 for the set of four.

The CGFNS Practice English Series helps applicants practice and improve English-language skills in preparation for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam. With part one of the series, you will receive:

• An audio cassette tape that simulates listening comprehension questions in an examination style format;
• A practical test booklet with sample questions, correct answers and a sample answer sheet;
• Tips on practicing English as it is spoken in the United States; and information about the design of the English-language proficiency exams and the CGFNS Qualifying Exam.

Volume 2 is a two-part series in which you will receive additional practice help for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam. The tapes can be used to further practice and improve your English-language skills as well as:

• Gain important examine-taking tips to help you to do your best
• Practice with materials that duplicate the experiences of the TOEFL exam, and
• Evaluate your readiness to take the English Language (TOEFL) exam with the questions once used in an actual CGFNS Qualifying Exam.

CGFNS Will Process English Scores from TOEFL IBT for its Certification and VisaScreen^® Programs

The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) has begun accepting TOEFL iBT English scores on behalf of those applicants who are taking the new internet Based Testing English exam. CGFNS will continue to accept the previous TOEFL,TWE and TSE scores if they are less than 2 years old.

CGFNS Designates Barbados and Jamaica as English Exempt Countries for the Purpose of 212(r) Visa Certification

The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) has added Barbados and Jamaica to the list of English exempt countries under Section 212(r) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act. Nurses from countries who qualify under Section 212(r) are eligible for this alternative screening of their professional credentials for the purpose of immigration.
