Daisy Alford Smith appointed chief operating officer to CGFNS
The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) announced that Daisy Alford Smith, PhD, RN, FAAN, will be the new chief operating officer for the organization. She will assume the position on 22 October 2004.
“Dr Alford-Smith is a seasoned executive who brings strong national and international leadership and career accomplishments to the position,” said CGFNS CEO Barbara L. Nichols, DHL, MS, RN, FAAN. “She has earned a reputation for her strong administrative, fiscal, public health programs and management expertise.”
Most recently, Dr Alford-Smith served as Director of the Summit County Department of JOB and Family Services for The City of Akron, Ohio. She is a past Director of the Case-Western Reserve University Center for Urban and Minority Health, and Director of the State of Ohio’s Department of Human Resources. She started her career as a nurses aid, went on to earn her nursing diploma from the Montefiore Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from University of the State of New York, Albany; her MS in technical education from the University of Akron; and her PhD in Urban Education from Cleveland State University.
