NOVEMBER 22, 2004 CGFNS hosts open forum sessions in India for CGFNS Qualifying ExamSM participants Barbara L. Nichols, Chief Executive Officer for the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) recently conducted five informational forums in India—three in New Delhi and two in Cochin—regarding CGFNS programs and services for applicants, employers, proctors and recruiters. The forums were held the week of November 8, 2005 during the same time as the November exam for CGFNS Certification Program applicants. “These forums,” said Nichols, “provided us with an opportunity to meet face-to-face with our customer base and other stakeholders. We often use this type of meeting format internationally to educate interested persons about our programs, services, and processes, and offer our international audiences a chance to ask us questions directly.” Forum attendees came away from the meetings feeling more comfortable about the overall process they are undertaking in their quest to either become a nurse in the United States or support an international nurse headed for the United States. CGFNS plans to host additional informational forums in India in 2005. CGFNS is an immigration-neutral, nonprofit organization based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, and is an internationally recognized authority on the education, registration and licensure of nurses worldwide. CGFNS’s mission is to provide responsible leadership in the delivery of relevant services to the global nursing and health care community. The organization was founded in 1977 through a collaborative effort by representatives from the U.S. Department of Labor; Department of Health, Education and Welfare (now the Department of Health and Human Services); the Immigration and Naturalization Service; and representatives from nursing organizations, including the American Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing.
