Iceland’s volcanic eruption effects mail to and from Europe

On April 14, volcanic eruption in Iceland resulted in a cloud of ash that has affected air travel all over northern Europe. For the past week, many flights had been grounded or diverted as a result of the risk of engine damage from particles of ash from the volcanic cloud. As of this week, flights are slowly resuming regular schedules

As a result of the airport closures, several postal administrations have reported the inability to receive and dispatch mail, and courier services have been affected. Mail service is backlogged and delays are to be expected.

CGFNS continues to monitor the situation closely.
