The International Council of Nurses offers new information regarding Japan and its Nurses Association
The International Council of Nurses provides timely information regarding the state of affairs in Japan on its website under What’s New at www.icn.ch.

Message to NNAs from the Japanese Nurses Association – It’s been a week since the onset of the Earthquake. We all are aware difficulties go on and on, though all Japanese are tackling them with patience. But we have never felt nurses and NNAs in the world so close. We live on their thoughts and prayers for us. Please convey our gratitude to the NNAs worldwide for their thoughts and prayers for us.
Japan Tohoku-Pacific Ocean earthquake – To respond to the needs of those concerned about relatives in the affected regions, the Japanese Red Cross Society, facilitated by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), is encouraging those living overseas to make use of the ICRC’s restoring family links web page: www.icrc.org/familylinks.
News from the Japanese Nurses Association – ICN has also been in contact with past President Hiroko Minami and current ICN Board Member, Masako Kanai-Pak and is relieved to report they are both safe. Dr Minami reports that nurses are working to help people in many ways through governmental and nongovernmental organizations, including JNA and the Japan Society of Disaster Nursing.
JNA also reports that Japan is receiving a lot of help from many countries and on behalf of the Japanese they send their great appreciation to everyone in the world.
ICN is monitoring the quickly evolving situation as much as possible, though conscious of not putting undue pressure on JNA for communication as they need to manage such a dramatic situation.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Emergency and Humanitarian Response has posted the latest Situation Reports, maps, technical guidelines and other information on the Japan earthquake and tsunami and they can be found at: www.who.int/hac/crises/jpn/en/index.html and www.wpro.who.int/sites/eha.
