Frequently Asked Questions Regarding the Special Administration of the CGFNS ISPN Program in China



1. What is the CGFNS ISPN Program?

The CGFNS International Standards for Professional Nurses (ISPN) Program allows nurses to gain a clear understanding of how their nursing knowledge compares to international standards. The ISPN Program consists of two components: 1) an initial verification of first-level, general nurse status and 2) passing the CGFNS Qualifying Exam®.

2. What are the benefits of the CGFNS ISPN Program in China?

Nurses residing in the People’s Republic of China who are eligible for the CGFNS ISPN Program will be able to validate their nursing knowledge against international norms to improve their professional status in the People’s Republic of China and abroad.

3. When is the CGFNS ISPN Program CGFNS Qualifying Exam® Special Administration?

CGFNS International is conducting a CGFNS ISPN Program special administration of the CGFNS Qualifying Exam® on November 15, 2012 in the People’s Republic of China.

4. Who is qualified to apply for the CGFNS ISPN Program in China?

To be eligible, you must:

  1. be a nurse, licensed to practice within the People’s Republic China
  2. reside in and be a citizen of the People’s Republic of China
  3. have graduated from a government-approved nursing school
  4. have your status as a first-level, general nurse verified

6. Where will the Special Administration of the CGFNS Qualifying Exam® take place?

There will be test centers in:

  1. Beijing
  2. Shanghai
  3. Shenyang
  4. Zhengzhou
  5. Guangzhou

After registration, you will be notified of a location assignment at a later date.

7. What is the application fee?

The application fee for the CGFNS ISPN Program in China is $300. You may pay online with a credit card or contact the CGFNS International Intake Office for further assistance.

8. What is the fee for verification?

The verification is included in the application fee of $300.

9. What documents are required?

  1. One copy of your nursing school diploma
  2. One copy of your government-issued nurse registration document
  3. One copy of the CGFNS International China Intake Office Information Form. Please download and print from CGFNS Connect by clicking here
  4. One copy of your personal identification card
  5. A passport-style photograph. Please upload to your online account through CGFNS Connect by clicking here
  6. Academic Records/Transcripts from your first-level, general nursing program, with official seal, in English and Chinese. Download and print the “Request for Academic Records/Transcripts” form from CGFNS Connect and send to your school. Your school will complete the required information and submit it, along with your academic records/transcripts, to the CGFNS International Intake Office directly.

10. Can I participate if I passed the China nurse licensure exam but waiting on certification?

Yes, you may. If you are graduating this year and you have passed the licensure exam, you can use your score report to participate.

11. I am not licensed to practice nursing in China yet. May I participate in this exam?

Yes, you may. Those who have graduated prior to 2012 must provide the license certification and those who are in the process of obtaining license certification must request the unit responsible for issuing this license to provide verification with an authorized seal. This must be mailed to CGFNS International Intake Office:

12. What is the exam format?

The CGFNS Qualifying Exam® is an Internet-based, objective-format exam. Questions are multiple choice and multiple selection. The exam will take 3 hours (about one minute per question). All questions have been designed by subject-matter experts. The goal of the exam is to test basic nursing knowledge and concepts.

13. How long does it take to verify the documents at CGFNS International Intake Office?

The CGFNS International Intake Office will notify applicants upon receipt of mail. Applicants will be informed whether they meet the requirements or do not meet the requirements. Method of communication will be via mail or phone.

14. I previously applied to the CGFNS ISPN Program. Do I need my nursing license verified?

If you have previously applied to the CGFNS ISPN Program, you still have to mail all the materials to CGFNS International Intake Office for verification. You will learn about whether you meet the requirements via mail or phone in approximately one week.

15. How do I know if I passed the verification process?

The CGFNS International Intake Office will notify applicants of the results of the verification process by phone or mail.

16. After I have filled out the application, can I edit it?

No, once completed, the information provided in the application cannot be changed.

17. If there is a change in the email address, what should I do?

If there is a change in your email address or contact information, please write a letter to inform CGFNS International Intake Office of the change. Email communication is not acceptable.

18. After I have been assigned a time for testing, can I change the date?

No, the testing time and date cannot be changed.

19. Do I have to forward my original nursing school diploma?

No, however CGFNS International will only accept a clear photocopy of your nursing school diploma for verification.

21. What if the educational institution from which I graduated is no longer in existence?

You will need to contact the management unit (for example, the provincial department of health or education), to request official verification of your attendance.

23. If I do not meet the requirements for testing, can I receive a refund?

No, before you apply to the CGFNS ISPN Program in China, please be aware that CGFNS International has a “no refund” policy.

24. When will I obtain the authorization to test?

Once your application is complete and all required documents have been verified, you will receive an authorization to test notification.

25. What do I need to bring to the test center?

On Exam day, please bring your Authorization To Test letter and personal identification card.

26. Where can I learn about my test scores?

You may view your test scores online approximately 2 weeks after the exam through CGFNS Connect.

27. If I did not pass the exam, what should I do?

Please wait for the CGFNS International Intake Office to contact you regarding next steps.

28. How many times can I take this exam?

This is a one-time, special administration of the CGFNS Qualifying Exam® for the CGFNS ISPN Program in China. Future availability will be posted at www.cgfns.org

29. If I did not pass the exam, will all my documents be returned?

No. Once documents are received, they become the property of CGFNS International.

30. When are certificates issued?

After 1) successfully passing the CGFNS Qualifying Exam® and 2) a final review to ensure all requirements are met, your CGFNS ISPN Program Certificate will be issued.

31. What if the exam is not administered due to extenuating circumstances?

It will be the decision of CGFNS International and the CGFNS International Intake Office as to how to proceed with this unforeseeable event.
